Case study

Training and assessing employees in a short space of time with limited training resources, such as staff is a difficult task. we had to implement a training system that is effective, easy to use and complies with the MQA requirements, the provisions of Section 10 of the Mine Health and Safety Amendment Act, and addresses the concerns, raised historically by the DMR with regards to Electronic Training Systems.

we had to speed up the current training process by presenting Unit Standard based training, induction and Legal compliance training in electronic format, where the learner will only need to training what is needed and where there is a knowledge gap. The system had to be user friendly to literate, semi - literate and illiterate employees. We implemented the CompAss electronic training system (ETS) that makes use of text, voice over and visual material that facilitates the learning process. The system's rich, multi-sensory delivery system facilitates greater retention of new knowledge.

The training system implemented at Khumani allows for the use of multiple training methodologies, such as:

  1. E-learning in a controlled environment, such as a training centre, or on the Khumani Mine intranet.
  2. Blended approach, using a trainer/facilitator to train and hand held keypads to perform individual assessment, facilitated by the trainer/facilitator.

Anglo American Coal and Platinum

Case study

Section 10(2) requires the Employer to ensure that every Employee is properly trained to deal with every risk to that Employee's health or safety that is associated with any work that the Employee has to perform and has been recorded in terms of Section 11 identification and risk assessments to be carried out), In the procedure to be followed to perform that Employee's work, and in relevant emergency procedures.

Section 10 of the MHSA has been amended, by the inclusion of sub - Sections 4 & 5. Sub - Section 4 now requires the Employer to keep a record of all formal training provided in respect of each Employee in terms of Sub - Section 2.

CompAss Software optimized the old induction and legal compliance training at Anglo American Platinum from an outdated ineffective paper based training system to an electronic training system (ETS) or Computer based Training (CBT) System.

ESTC pride itself by producing competent Artisans who possess the skills that is required in today’s Morden industries.

Case Study

Providing training and assessments of learners using an effective method is critical to proper functionality of any operation. ESTC needed a software system that would enable/allow them to store and retrieve learner's performance results whenever audits and investigations are conducted by DMR, MQA and QCTO.

The training system implemented at ESTC allows for the use of recording personnel training statistics for stuff and learners who operate at Anglo American Platinum. It allows them to test, assess and monitor the progress of learners.
